Thrifty Treasures

A new GoodWill store opened in our county last week.  It's the first one close by, and on the opening day, it was jam packed.  There was even a wait for a shopping cart.  It was very hard to get around to shop, and the check out line went all the way around the store!  The store was filled with gorgeous items, and I managed to get my hands on a few bargains!!  For around $ 28.00, this is what I came home with. This turquoise flower pot,  this colorful bowl, just right for the season,  this picture with fall colors (excuse the glare), another white candlestick to add to my collection,  this long red and white table runner,  a sweet acorn dish, and  this cover for my lap top.  It was new with tags for just over $2.00. So, now I have this huge GW about 4 miles from my home!!  I can't keep bringing things home until I get rid of some of my old stuff. I have plans to clean out my closets, ca...

Hall Tree in Fall Finery

You know by now, that my favorite place to decorate is my hall tree.  See the story about when I purchased it here . I found this beautiful platter at a yard sale for $3.00, and knew it would be great for this season, and what better place to display it than the hall tree. I added acorns to a wire basket to finish this vignette atop a fall placemat from Target. I think this is probably my favorite spot in the house!!   I made both floral arrangements, and the wreath.  The only things that were purchased for this fall are the white tub on the bottom, and the platter.  Everything else was found by shopping the basement. Y'all know I can't leave anything alone, so this could possibly change soon. ;)    Feathered Nest Friday @  French Country Cottage Five Star Frugal Shabbylicious Friday @ Shabby Art Boutique

New Paint Colors for Home Exterior

We finally decided to have the exterior of our home painted!!  The previous color (Dolphin Gray), had faded terribly over the past few years, and showed dirt so badly. Oh goodness, was I tired. of. the. color. of. my. front. door!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  No kidding!!  Blueberry, ugh!! 10 years of blueberry!! Before (blueberry) Finally, I have a new door color......Wythe Blue by Benjamin Moore. I looooooove. it.!!! After Before After Before After We didn't replace the shutters.  Strong winds pull them out of the hardiplank siding, so we decided to leave them off, and actually like it just as well. Before After  I'm in love with the darker color on the body of the house.  It's called Stormy Sky, Benjamin Moore. It's hard to tell in this photo, but the screened porch has been stained in Brick Red.  We are loving that as well. You can see the porch in this post . We gave...

Screened Porch Makeover

For the past 4 weeks, we have been in the process of getting our home exterior painted.  I will share more in a later post, but I wanted to show you the screened porch (in progress).  We painted the exterior in a darker gray (Benjamin Moore, Stormy Sky).  I chose solid color stain in BM Brick Red for the porch floor and railings.  I am delighted with the way it looks so far.  We removed the screen, and it will be replaced next week.  We had a variety of furniture on the porch, which we had the painter spray in the color of the house foundation, which is BM Metropolitan (a light gray). Now all the seating is one color which is much better. I bought the two red plant stands from Lowe's.  I have a bench cushion ordered for the swing.  My husband had this swing from years ago.  It was so chippy, so we pressure washed it, then sanded, and had it painted so we could use it on the screened porch. I'm using these pillows until my...

Fall Tablescape

I've set a simple fall table in the dining room.  Nothing elaborate.  It went through several "adjustments" before I was finally satisfied with the look. I tried the napkins in the glasses, then laid them beside the plates.   After I added the placemats and place settings, I didn't like the runner.  Luckily, it's reversible, so I flipped it over to its solid side. Brown, no conflicting patterns.  Much better. The placemats were on clearance a few years ago, but I can't remember which store they came from, maybe Target. The plates are from the Dollar Tree. Simple, frugal tablesetting. You've seen these items before, just not exactly like this. The napkins from consignment shop, flatware from consignment sale. Final look. Often we may have questions about how to correctly set the table, how to place the napkins, placecards, glasses, the etiquette on how to "pass the salt", even.  Here's a great in...

Vintage Lamp Gets a Frenchy Makeover

I am crazy about lamps!  I have so many, but that doesn't stop me from buying more.  Especially when they are a good price, and have a beautiful shape, and are one of your favorite colors, and VINTAGE!  How could I pass it up??  And for $6.00!! This lamp is not perfect, with its partially glued on base, and its stained shade. Not to worry, though.  I knew I had a shade at home that would work fine with this sweet lamp! I bought two of these shades some time ago at WM, and they have made the rounds on various lamps.  It is a perfect fit. The french script, and the fleur de lis tag I made, give it a snazzy look!  I think it's a real beauty!!  I added a fabric flower I made to the top of the shade with a mini clothes pin.  It sits on the bookcase that I painted with Old White chalk paint, with the turquoise back.  It blends in nicely! I'm so proud of this frugal lamp!  I just love it!! ...
