No Cost Centerpiece

One of my favorite things to do is browse through antique and consignment shops.  A couple of weeks ago, I saw a centerpiece for a table made from a jar holder from an old canning pot, filled with jars and flowers.  The cost was $40.00!  I thought, "I can do that without spending any money".  This afternoon, I decided to make my version.  I brought up the jar holder from an old canner I had in the basement.  I had my Ball jars in use in another project, so I just rambled through the cabinet where I keep some empty jars, and got out some old spaghetti sauce jars.  First I painted 2 of them with ASCP, and 2 with a Valspar paint sample.  After about 15 minutes they were dry enough to complete my project. I already had the flowers from DT. Here is what it looks like.   Cute, huh? I placed it on the table in the sun room. I already had everything needed to complete this project. It blends well with the other items in the room. Easy, easy p

Screened Porch Face Lift

Goodness, have we had a busy week!! Our screened porch was in need of a makeover!  It has kinda been a hodge podge of "stuff", things we've had for a long time.  I had been using some "ugly, tacky" Good Will cushions in the hunter  green chairs and had the old originals in the loveseat and other chair. Nothing matched.  You can see, it had become quite the mess!! This is how it looked when we started.   We started by removing the screen!  We had not cleaned it this year, so it was really dirty.  Pollen, dust, and smoke had gotten the best of it!  There were a few holes in it, so we trashed the entire lot!   Here it is without the screen. We don't have steps going off the porch, so to keep from tracking through the house with all the dirty furniture and screen, I handed the chairs down to my husband who was on the step ladder below. We finally got everything off, except the table, which I knew we would really need.  (plus, it w

Decorating With Bottles

I love the look of altered bottles.  Whether old bottles, or new, they are easily changed and add charm to your decor.  Here are some that I have recently decorated.     L: Old bottle found on our property.  R: Syrup bottle I used a tag on the brown bottle at first, but changed it to the lace, and heart shaped locket below.   The syrup bottle has a piece of burlap ribbon, and my MIL's Bible bookmark attached. Here is a vinegar bottle.  I used items from Michael's and the Dollar Tree to decorate it, and tied a piece of lace around it. Bottle below, purchased at HL.  Raffia and a key decorate it. The green bottle is also from HL, an old key is tied on with twine. Here is an old vinegar/oil bottle wrapped with french ribbon, lace, twine and a button. Another oil/vinegar bottle with a graphic label, twine and button, and a lace ribbon. This is a simple, easy project, and very low cost.  I only bought two of the bottles, at $1.50 each.
