Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

My husband had this hutch when we got married in 2005.  I've always secretly wanted to paint it, but never mentioned it to him.  We were sitting here the other day, and he said, "I wonder how that hutch would look painted?"  I answered that I thought it would be a good project.  I had some chalk paint with me, and some flat white paint, as well, plus a sample jar of Valspar, Schoolboy Blue.  So after breakfast, today, I removed everything off, cleaned out the drawers, took off the drawer pulls, and got busy. RECIPE for using baking soda for chalk paint:        (1/2 c  baking soda  to 1 c flat paint) mix some water with the soda, and stir to remove lumps, then add to paint. before after First I painted the inside using the Valspar Schoolboy Blue. I've shared all the great buys in bedding I've found at Good Will recently and now I have them on the beds at the lake house, so I'll share how they look.  I found shams that matched the queen bed. Before / Yellow pillow cases for shams After / matching shams from GW We decided that we didn't want both twin bedrooms to look the same, and I found this quilt, bed skirt, and sheet set at GW for a total of around 12 dollars total, and it really changes the look. I really like the pattern, and the embroidery on the white sections of the quilt.  (Cost of quilt, $6.00) Here, you can see how well the sheet set goes with the quilt. Today, I decided to dismantle my gallery wall.  Here, you can see how many items I had on the wall, and well, I was just tired of it!! before I simplified it, and here is how it looks now. after A dear friend gave me this picture, and I've had it in several places, but I love it here, above the desk. I've changed a couple of vignettes, on the hall tree, (above), and on the corner table, (below). I redecorated the top of the jelly cupboard by placing this "gate" on top, along with the bird tray and cloches. This stool did hold the bowl, now on the hall tree, so I replaced it with this piece, and the shutters. I bought the pitcher, below, to add to my collection.  I love that it looks like a bird house.  It's from the Kathy Hatch collection. I found this lovely five finger vase at Good Will.  It's a great vintage piece. I also got this book on Depression Glass.  I have quite a bit, and it will be interesting to learn...

I dashed into Good Will on Friday for just a few minutes, but came away with some lovely glassware.  One of the pieces is my new favorite thing! I found two of these 6" bud vases in the wedgwood blue Jasperware.  They fit nicely with my glasses I found last week. They were 99 cents each, just like the glasses.  Yesterday, my daughter and I were shopping and I found this old Jasperware liquor bottle to add to my new collection. It was only $8.00, and is such a great piece.   Just look at the glass cork. The scene I now have 9 pieces of this and love having it in my china cabinet.  I have spent a total of $16.00 on this new collection. My other finds are a bottle and a vase.  This green bottle caught my eye because of it's shape.
