Making a Winter Wreath

When Good Will recently opened a store in our town, I went in on the first day, and found a couple of grapevine wreaths. I believe this one was $1.91 .  Even though it is a little misshapen,  I decided it would be fine for a winter wreath.  I gathered items together that I already had, and decorated it for the front door.   I had a piece of burlap ribbon that I made into a bow, then I added a burlap flower I had made some time ago. I wired on three foam snow flakes from my stash, two holly stems, and then clipped on a spot of red.  This "old fashioned" girl tag was in a pack of papers I bought at HL recently. Nothing is attached permanently, so I can use and reuse this wreath. By using what I had, I have a frugal wreath and I like how simple it is. A little rustic, and not too fussy! Post-Christmas Thrifting and Decorating

All the Christmas décor is put away, except for a few pieces that will work as "winter décor".  Plus, I've been thrifting some this week, and have found some neat items. I got a Reader's Digest Condensed book and this table cloth (square) for a total of around two dollars and change.  The color code for the week was yellow, and both pieces happened to be yellow tagged. This is the tablecloth. I found two houses for my Snow Village Collection.  They were 1/2 price at the consignment shop, I think around two dollars each. On the hall tree now (above) They had a Dickens set at 1/2 price (around 12 dollars), but I wasn't crazy about it so I decided against it. These items were also from the consignment shop. These ornaments that I can leave out anytime, a snowman towel, birdhouse ornament, snowman, the two houses, and the nativity scene doily under them, all for around $12.00.  I'm back in the thrifting swing!!   Now, on to my ...

Farm House Style Wasn't Always Pretty!

WARNING: Not my typical post, lots of photos, so get comfy.  I do think you will enjoy this trip down memory lane with me.  :) FARM HOUSE STYLE WASN'T ALWAYS PRETTY, FROM A GIRL WHO LIVED IT!!! When we say farm house style, today, our minds conjure up a gorgeous home complete with wrap around porches, lovely decorative items, such as antique scales, farm house sinks, open shelving painted all white, with neatly styled matching dish ware, and some brightly colored collection, thrown in for a pop of color! Having grown up in a farm house, I'm here to tell you in the fifties and sixties, that is not what they looked like! At least, ours didn't!! Back then, the farm house was very utilitarian.  No gorgeous decorative pieces on pretty white shelves. Shelves were usually rough wood, some full of splinters! We raised chickens for a time, 3 poultry houses dotted the property; at one time Daddy had the bright idea to start a hog farm.  I know the neighbors loved tha...

Favorite Projects, 2015

My favorite project for 2015 was getting the house painted, including the screened porch makeover!  That part is my favorite.  Here's a little reminder. BEFORE:  Mis matched furniture. AFTER:  Matching furniture, new table, new pillows. I had all the mismatched furniture painted the same color, and purchased new cushions.  I even painted the lamp!! I purchased the small red tables at Lowe's. They matched the floor perfectly.  We are loving the darker color on the house and floor. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FAVORITE PURCHASE, 2015 My favorite purchase was ( of course) , the hall tree I purchased for $89.00!!
