Shabby Chic Mason Jars

My Grandson's wedding was this past Saturday, and my daughter asked if I would decorate for the rehearsal dinner on Friday night.  Since the wedding was casual, we decided to use mason jars as vases for the centerpieces.  I took a trip to Michaels, and bought clear pint and quart jars to use. On Wednesday, I took all my goodies to my craft area in the basement, and got busy shabbying the jars.  I used both chalk paint, and acrylic. After putting one to two coats on the jars, I distressed them using a sanding block/sponge.  Then out came the tidbits to dress them up. I have pastels, and warm colors. Quart jars (above) No two are exactly the same. Pint jars (above) I kept the silver band on some of them. These were very economical to make by using paints, and embellishments I had on hand in addition to the few new ones I purchased.  Some of the jars got 2 coats of paint, but most got only one.  I wanted the light from flameless c...

Sofa Table Makeover

I bought this sofa table back in the 80's.  I've always liked it. Like everything else, it's resided in every room of the house, at one time or another, and at the old house as well.  Most recently, I used it on my side of the bed, as a bedside table.  I use a BiPAP machine, so I require a good sized space on the night stand.  I just never really liked the table used for that, so I decided to swap some tables around throughout the house. I'd also been rolling the thought around in my head to give this table a makeover.  While shopping at JoAnns recently, I picked up a couple bottles of the Folk Art, Home Decor Chalk Paint. One of the bottles was Adirondack White, so I painted the table with it. First, I moved the table into the breakfast room.  This room gets lots of light from the sunroom. I removed the drawer knobs, and gathered my supplies. As usual with chalk paint, no sanding or priming was required, so I got busy painting. ...

Shabby Chic Sunroom Makeover for $6.00

WARNING, PICTURE OVERLOAD!! I think this makeover probably has the most impact of any I have ever done.  Y'all know I'm cheap  frugal. Real frugal.  I will stretch a dollar as far as it will go!! One of my favorite consignment shops has moved to a new location, so I went to see the new store yesterday, and of course I had my mind on finding something to get my junkin' fix.  And find it I did!!  I was looking through their vintage linens, debating on some of them, when I looked on top of the display and saw this fabric, tied up with twine, price, $5.99.  So I grabbed it.  I could tell there was quite a bit, and once I got it home, I opened it up, and estimated it to have about 5 yards. I knew immediately what I would do with the fabric.  I would use it to give my sun room a little makeover! I have had two twin sheets draped at the top of the windows in there for several years, probably 10!  I've often thought of doing something else ...

For the Love of Doors

I love old doors.  Knowing that, my daughter gave me a beautiful one for my birthday.  I am still deciding on where to put it, and am trying it out in several places. She found this in a local shop.  It's a cabinet door, distressed, and painted.  It is very heavy.  I first placed it on the mantel, and liked it there, but I love having my grandchildren's picture there, so it didn't stay there very long.  Next, I placed it on the little shelf I had attached to another door, but was afraid the small shelf wouldn't hold the weight of the door for very long. I really like it here, so I will probably try to put it back there after I figure out a way to assure that the small shelf won't fall. It doesn't have any way to hang it at present, that is another option, making a hanger for it.   Currently, it is on the small cupboard in the dining room. Where do you like it best, on the mantel, other door, or on the cupboard?...
