Creating a Welcoming Entrance

I buy so many items with the word welcome on them .  Welcome, greet (someone arriving) in a glad, polite, or friendly way.  I hope my home always gives forth that vibe.  I want those who visit to feel comfortable and welcome, and not rushed away. Here is my little welcoming spot as one comes up to the front steps. The hosta is really growing.  I added the metal fence to keep the dogs away from it.  They love to lay on the hosta!! I love the colors in this flag.  I have quite a few, but chose this one yesterday. The angel with outspread wings is a bird feeder. I like to think this represents a warm welcome to visitors.  On the porch I have these to welcome guests.  I painted this table a couple years ago.  It sits between two rocking chairs.  Today, I added the stripes.  Then I added some colorful flowers to the vase on the table. Of course, there is always a wreath on the door. ...

Whimsical Old Enamel Wash Basin & A Makeover

I recently showed you this old dirty basin I bought last week. $6.99 You can tell it has been used, that's for sure!!  I cleaned it up and decided on a great use for it! Our house has 2 1/2 baths.  The guest bath is small and has no window so it's quite dark.  The master bath has a huge soaker tub, large shower, and LOTS of light coming through the  44" window beside the tub. It dawned on me that at some point, a guest might prefer the larger bathroom. So I decided to make this old wash basin a useful, yet whimsical, piece for the master bath. I had a card of these stickers bought for 50 cents at Michael's.  So used one to add some beauty to the old pan.  Next, I cut a piece of fabric I had left over from recovering the bathroom stool and used it to line the bottom of the wash basin.  Then I started adding items a guest might need, shampoo, bath soap, lotion, razor, shaving cream, bath cloths.  It sits on...

A Quilt for the Master at Shadymont

Last week while at the lake house, we bought new quilts for the twin beds and the master. Master at Lakehouse Twin bed guest room at Lakehouse I liked the way they looked there, so I started looking for one for our house here in NE GA.   Here is the Master at Shadymont BEFORE: AFTER: I looked on line, but the prices were a little more than I wanted to pay. So I went to Wal Mart and looked and found this off-white/taupe one. As you know finding any bed covering for the high mattresses/beds is not easy.  So I knew I would continue using the dust ruffle already on the bed.   For that reason, I stayed in the same color family as with the comforter I previously had in here. The quilt stitching is the double wedding ring design.  The quilt fits like a comforter would, except without all the puffy down in a comforter, it lays flat and neat, and has plenty of weight for the summer months. The wall color in the photos looks pin...

A Few Face Lifts

I asked my sweet husband to bring our plants up to the screened porch.  We wintered them in the basement and didn't lose any. The Philodendron lost its biggest leaves, which it needed to do, and is starting over with smaller ones.  All the succulents and spider plants made it really well. We're using the small ladder I painted again this year. MOVING ON TO MY PROJECTS, See this yellow plaque on the front porch? I decided to give it a little face lift, using my free Valspar sample from a year or so ago. I like the color much better , and the design too.  Before it said  Welcome to our home. I also added the chain to it. I failed to take a before picture of this sign (Home Sweet Home), but it was also a yellow background with a bird house, apples, and the wording. I used the same sample paint, then free-handed the wording and painted on the bird house.  Next I stamped it with 2 fleur de lis', then used som...

Garage Sales in Full Swing Here

It is definitely garage sale season in NE GA.  I went to a consignment shop that is a favorite, today to check out their sidewalk sale, and on the way, I never saw so many garage sale signs.  Every mile or two, there was a sale.  I stopped at several, and they were all really great.  I found some very cute things and spent very little money. First up was a sale at a nearby neighbor's home.  Had I known she was having it yesterday, I would have been an early bird. But she still had some good bargains today.  They were selling things for a quarter, a dime, amounts like that, and I spent $.70. Seventy cents!! I got this darling picture for a dime. I didn't ask her, but I think she may have painted it.  It's probably a 5x7 or a little smaller. I got 12 roses for a dime. Some of them are in the yellow and green vase in the first photo, and the others are in this crystal bud vase, I bought at another sale for a dollar. It's l...
