Cute Little Step Stool

On Wednesday, I awoke in the mood to do some antiquing and thrifting.  There is a great antique mall about 25 miles from home that I have only been to one other time, so I decided I would go have another look around.  They had lots of goodies, but this little step stool caught my eye.  After all, it's turquoise, my new favorite color.  It's a little rough around the edges, but just the cutest thing!! I placed it in the sun room, and am using it to hold some of my plants.   This shows how it is made on the sides.  The very bottom at the floor is worn, but that adds character.  I think it is precious!  Love the little bird peeping out from the bottom step.   Y'all know how I like stools and finding this little step stool, just made my day! Best part.....$12.00!!  Score! Nearby are 2 other stools, stacked and holding plants.  When the weather warms and I can move the plants outside, it's going to be so much...

Touches of Spring

I have slowly worked on adding more Spring decor to our home.  I've had a difficult time deciding what I want on the mantel this year.  I think I may have finally settled on this. It's hard to see, but the gate holds a bird, and a real bird's nest with five robin eggs. I've used two of the three pots shown below to add some color to the mantel. The greenery came from DT a year or so ago. I changed out the items in this little tote from Michael's. It sits on the coffee table in the family room. I added this ceramic rose to the pedestal I showed you recently. I'm enjoying this painted turquoise. I reworked an old wreath for the front door.  I wired on these three stems with nest and egg to the wreath, added DT flowers, and old bow I had in my stash. I tweaked this vignette in the sunroom.  I added DT flowers to the small mason jar, and added these sweet rabbits, also from DT. Aren't...

Quick Paint Project

When I first started my blog, everyone was making cake stands/pedestals from cheese trays and candle sticks, so I made some too.  I made this one from items bought at GW.   I glued the two pieces together, and spray painted it with Oil Rubbed Bronze. I'd been thinking about changing the color.  This afternoon seemed like the perfect time to update it.  I painted it with Folk Art Sky Blue Arts/Crafts paint. I wasn't going for perfect, just coverage. When dry, I of course stenciled my favorite Fleur De Lis on it. I have the dome that goes with this, but have to locate it.  I cleaned out the cabinets recently, so heaven knows where I put it.   Here it is with other aqua pieces.   I like it better in this fresh color.  This was a very quick, easy update that didn't cost a dime.  Now to find the dome.   Back later:  dome found!!  Yay!!! Kinda cute! Come join in the fun a...

Birds and Bunnies

We're back home in N. Georgia now, and I decided it's time to get out the bunny rabbits.  It's almost Easter after all.  Come meet some of my sweet bunnies. This little fellow is only about 2.5 inches tall.  I love the colors.  He sits on the bookcase under a small cloche. I love this mama bunny with her little one. These are two of my favorites.  I bought them at Dollar General a year or two ago.  I think this is Mr. & Mrs. Cottontail This bird and bunny are part of a vignette on the mantel. This bunny carries its baby on its back.  This also sits on the mantel along with the arrangement below.   This little folding bunny family was purchased at a consignment sale my daughter held. This little bunny is made from a cardboard like substance.  I've had it a long time.  It is in the sun room.   This sweet green bird joins in the setting.   My 'real' bird nest....

Spring Vignette for Armoire

We arrived at the lake house to find it rather cool here.  Normally it is at least 20 degrees warmer than at our full time home in the mountains.  I decided this would not stop me from adding a little Spring to the decor.   We recently moved an entertainment armoire from our mountain home to the  lake which gives me another flat surface to decorate !! Whoo-hoo!!!!  The picture above is the one that was hanging above the armoire.  Pretty, but it looks dark and I am ready for a change.  Answer: Shop the house for items for a Spring vignette! I switched the picture with this one from one of the guest rooms.   To update the arrangement below, I covered the vase with black/white contact paper so it would look better with the picture. Original vase Vase, updated   Complete vignette Finial (From a gift shop) Bird (Dollar General) Floral arrangement (church yard sale, $1.00) Picture (Kirklands) Cloc...
