Sharing Shadymont, My Mountain Cottage

Having tired of my winter table scape in the dining room, I decided to change it up!!     I was mostly tired of the drop cloth table cloth.  It was on through Christmas and then through January, plus I was tired of the table taking up so much room.  I decided to take the leaf out of it and make it smaller. BEFORE BEFORE Here are the changes. AFTER  No table cloth.  These placemats were on clearance at Pier I for less than a dollar each.  Took the pink roses out of the pitcher, but left it on the table.  Changed back to the white dishes.  Kept the white napkins.I'm using my silver on a Armatele tray as the center piece.  I added the little green bird from Michael's for a early touch of spring.  I bought the little white bowl at a consignment shop yesterday for $5.00.  I love the shape of it.  I really like having the table without the leaf.  I'm loving this change!   BEFORE Today, I decided to tackle a project that I have been wanting to do for a while.  We have the jelly cupboard that belonged to my MIL.  When we were going through her things and moving the items we wanted to bring home with us, hubby let the hand trucks hit the cupboard and broke the glass in one of the doors.  I always photographed it with the doors open so it wasn't noticeable.  But it was always staring at me when I would go into the sun room, so today, I decided to break the glass out of the other door and add chicken wire instead.  It was really easy to do.  I purchased a 10 ft roll of chicken wire at Lowe's for a little over three dollars.  After unrolling the wire a couple of feet, I held it up to the inside of  one of the doors and started stapling it.  Then I just snipped the remainder of the wire off and did the same thing on the other door.  It only took about 10 minutes and I love the way it looks now!  Wha...

I went to a thrift shop on my lunch hour today and found a few treasures.  The proceeds from this thrift shop goes to a local battered women's shelter, so you can have fun shopping and know that the money you spend goes to a good cause.  The above runner has a lovely texture.  It is about 5 or 6 feet long and cost $3.00.  I just love this heart shaped dish.  It was only $3.00.  It's about 6 or 8 inches across.  Three white place mats for $3.00.  They match some I already have so I was glad to find these. This is another runner that was $2.00.  It is shorter than the other runner, but has pointed ends and tassels while the longer one is straight across on the ends.  I plan to use these at the home in South Georgia, but may do a table scape with them here first.  The longer runner may be used as a window treatment in one of the bathrooms at our other home.  It would work perfectly. I cleaned off the top of my cabinets the other day and had fun moving some of my 'pretties' to different areas.  Here is a little vignette I placed in a corner on the countertop. The tray is a consignment store find and had been on the top of the cabinets for a long time.  I decided it needed to be placed where it is easier to see and enjoy.  I haven't had the little beige roosters that long.  The white pitcher with the raffia was given to me by my sister a long time ago, and the yellow pitcher with the rooster on the front is a gift from a friend of mine for the past Christmas.  Don't you love the patina of the spoons tied together and standing in the yellow pitcher?  I do. Here is the tray on top of the cabinet.  I like having it at eye level. The above rooster plate was only $9.99 at Kirklands.  Wish I had bought 2. Today I am sharing photos of a little pink ballerina I've had for four years now.  She's so sweet and cute! Yet has a mind of her own and doesn't mind saying what she thinks. Her name is Rheagan and she's my granddaughter.  She was doing ballet moves she learned last year so her Mom made pictures and sent them to me.  She's very good at drawing and coloring, and can write her name, and quite a few other names.  She's our delight! I'm sharing a couple of little snowmen I've found in the last couple of months.  This one was found for a dollar at a consignment shop in South Georgia a while back. Isn't he cute with his stocking cap?  I just love his hat and scarf. I found the one below at another consignment shop for I believe about $3.00.  He's all fuzzy, and has weighted feet so he can stand.  He's a sweetheart too!  He has a wooly hat, scarf and gloves.  I have quite a few snowmen I need to bring up from storage and add to my collection.  This is what the table in the sun room looked like yesterday.  I was organizing my napkins, runners, etc., and came across the red items, so I decided to make the table a totally valentine table and changed out the napkins and plates.  :)  I also placed a lovely cupids figurine under the dome I made from Habitat items. The windows in this room face the East and look out on to a view of gentle  rolling hills. The morning sun streams in and warms the room.  I have had this little cupids piece for a very long time.  I think I got it at Eckerd Drugs years ago.  It's not even Eckerd Drugs anymore.  It's now Rite Aid. I think they had cuter things a long time ago than they do now. The flowers in this bouquet are from Dollar Tree, as is the ribbon and garland.  I received roses from my husband in the vase a number of years ago.  The little red bird nest is an old Christmas decoration.  I've probably had it for 25 years or more....
