Sprucing Up the Laundry Room

I enjoy seeing the laundry room makeovers in blogland. However, I am not a great painter, so I was trying to think of how I could give the room a little facelift.  My cabinets in there are plentiful, but after 17 years, they were seeing some wear. Mostly, areas where damp clothing sitting near the cabinets, both on the upper cabinets and the lower had places where the stain had all but disappeared.  I considered painting them, even though that is not my strong suit, considered using Java Gel Stain on them.  Still hesitant about my skills. I remembered that I had a can of Restore It Furniture rehab liquid that might help cover up some of the wear.  Even though the cabinets are honey colored, and the Restore It I had is walnut, I used it anyway.  Well, this stuff is wonderful.  It covered all the blemishes, gave a very clean look to the cabinets and didn't darken them over one shade.  They look like new!  I plan to get new hardware for this room. ...

Creating a Cozy Corner

We came to the lake house last Thursday.  Sometimes you just need a change of scenery.  On Friday we went to Tractor supply and I found this pretty planter.  I guess that's what it would be called.  That's how I'm using it.  The chicken wire is in the shape of a chicken!  Imagine that!  It's really pretty. I'm using the buckets as planters.  I didn't take a photo before decorating it. I bought these ferns and flowers at Dollar Tree using my gift card that was in the giveaway I won. At first I placed silverware in each compartment and sat it on the table but it was just too big for that.  I couldn't figure where I would place it.  Then I decided I would move the bookcase from the guest room and place it on this wall in the living room. I'd always wanted a small table there for a lamp, so this would also work for that. I moved a few items so that there would appear to be a gallery wall here.  The bird came from G...

Refreshing the Master Bedroom

Our master bedroom has looked the same for a long time.  We have lots of trouble finding bedding to look right on this bed, because it is high, plus it has huge mattress and box springs.  I had looked for hours online for bedding big enough for it. Finally, I measured it, and instead of going to various stores carrying bedding, I typed the measurements into the search bar, 118 x 110 bedding.  Then several links came up that carry what is called super-sized king bedding, including Amazon through ECity Direct, price $49.99.  I was a little suspicious, but the reviews for the bedding were very good, so I decided to order it and see.  (Chezmoi Kingston Collection, spread, 2 king size shams ) So a really great bargain.  When I opened it, I was sure I had done the right thing.  The spread is the same on both sides, and is the perfect weight. I've shown before how I had sewn a large dust ruffle to the quilt that was on our bed, to make it long enough to ful...

Coming Up Roses

I've used roses in our powder room for some time.  But had never thought to add this picture to the room until now. This was given to me by a dear friend, and it has traveled through the house many times.  It joins a rosy window treatment,  a rosy rug and trash can, rosy decorative boxes, No roses, but these pink tulips and vase carry out the colors in the room. Roses and cupids adorn the sign on the door. Sharing here: Tuesdays at our home @ Our home away from home Inspire Me Tuesday @  A Stroll Thru Life   The Scoop @ Confessions of a Plate Addic t
