Jelly Cupboard

BEFORE Today, I decided to tackle a project that I have been wanting to do for a while.  We have the jelly cupboard that belonged to my MIL.  When we were going through her things and moving the items we wanted to bring home with us, hubby let the hand trucks hit the cupboard and broke the glass in one of the doors.  I always photographed it with the doors open so it wasn't noticeable.  But it was always staring at me when I would go into the sun room, so today, I decided to break the glass out of the other door and add chicken wire instead.  It was really easy to do.  I purchased a 10 ft roll of chicken wire at Lowe's for a little over three dollars.  After unrolling the wire a couple of feet, I held it up to the inside of  one of the doors and started stapling it.  Then I just snipped the remainder of the wire off and did the same thing on the other door.  It only took about 10 minutes and I love the way it looks now!  Wha...

Thrifty Treasures

I went to a thrift shop on my lunch hour today and found a few treasures.  The proceeds from this thrift shop goes to a local battered women's shelter, so you can have fun shopping and know that the money you spend goes to a good cause.  The above runner has a lovely texture.  It is about 5 or 6 feet long and cost $3.00.  I just love this heart shaped dish.  It was only $3.00.  It's about 6 or 8 inches across.  Three white place mats for $3.00.  They match some I already have so I was glad to find these. This is another runner that was $2.00.  It is shorter than the other runner, but has pointed ends and tassels while the longer one is straight across on the ends.  I plan to use these at the home in South Georgia, but may do a table scape with them here first.  The longer runner may be used as a window treatment in one of the bathrooms at our other home.  It would work perfectly. For the Birds

I cleaned off the top of my cabinets the other day and had fun moving some of my 'pretties' to different areas.  Here is a little vignette I placed in a corner on the countertop. The tray is a consignment store find and had been on the top of the cabinets for a long time.  I decided it needed to be placed where it is easier to see and enjoy.  I haven't had the little beige roosters that long.  The white pitcher with the raffia was given to me by my sister a long time ago, and the yellow pitcher with the rooster on the front is a gift from a friend of mine for the past Christmas.  Don't you love the patina of the spoons tied together and standing in the yellow pitcher?  I do. Here is the tray on top of the cabinet.  I like having it at eye level. The above rooster plate was only $9.99 at Kirklands.  Wish I had bought 2. I'm joining the party at Marty's for table top Tuesday.  Thanks for hosting Marty.  Please stop by for the party....

Little Pink Ballerina

Today I am sharing photos of a little pink ballerina I've had for four years now.  She's so sweet and cute! Yet has a mind of her own and doesn't mind saying what she thinks. Her name is Rheagan and she's my granddaughter.  She was doing ballet moves she learned last year so her Mom made pictures and sent them to me.  She's very good at drawing and coloring, and can write her name, and quite a few other names.  She's our delight! I'm joining Beverly's at How Sweet the Sound for her Pink Saturday party.  Come over and check out all the pink.  You'll be inspired!

Thrifty Little Snowmen

I'm sharing a couple of little snowmen I've found in the last couple of months.  This one was found for a dollar at a consignment shop in South Georgia a while back. Isn't he cute with his stocking cap?  I just love his hat and scarf. I found the one below at another consignment shop for I believe about $3.00.  He's all fuzzy, and has weighted feet so he can stand.  He's a sweetheart too!  He has a wooly hat, scarf and gloves.  I have quite a few snowmen I need to bring up from storage and add to my collection. I'm joining in the party at Linda's for JFF.  Be sure to drop in for a visit.  It's lots of fun.  Thanks Linda for hosting!!!

Table for Two

This is what the table in the sun room looked like yesterday.  I was organizing my napkins, runners, etc., and came across the red items, so I decided to make the table a totally valentine table and changed out the napkins and plates.  :)  I also placed a lovely cupids figurine under the dome I made from Habitat items. The windows in this room face the East and look out on to a view of gentle  rolling hills. The morning sun streams in and warms the room.  I have had this little cupids piece for a very long time.  I think I got it at Eckerd Drugs years ago.  It's not even Eckerd Drugs anymore.  It's now Rite Aid. I think they had cuter things a long time ago than they do now. The flowers in this bouquet are from Dollar Tree, as is the ribbon and garland.  I received roses from my husband in the vase a number of years ago.  The little red bird nest is an old Christmas decoration.  I've probably had it for 25 years or more....

Winter/Valentine Mantel

I redecorated my mantel this week while we were snowed in.  I really like how it turned out.  See what you think. To me it feels so light and airy.  (Not that we need airy in this weather).   My former boss knew I collected angels and bought me all of these for different occasions.  These are Lenox, and some of my favorites.  This plaque is glass or ceramic (not sure),  and reads "Angels Gather Here".  I've had it for 8 or 9 years.  It has hung on the wall, rested on easels, stood in the china cabinet, on the bookcase, and ALL kinds of places, so now it is leaning on the mantel. I've had the red roses garland for several years.  It was on top of one of the kitchen cabinets in a vignette.  I was taking everything down and cleaning it last week and decided to use this on the mantle.  The glasses are clear depression glass.   Hope you like this as much as I do. I am linking to Laurie for the "Few of my Favorite T...

Valentine Vignette

We are still snowed in here in Northeast Georgia, so I got some things together for a valentine vignette.  See the cloche?  I was taking 2 sconces off the wall in the dining room, took them into the kitchen to wash them and when I rinsed and put them in the drainer, I noticed that when turned upside down, they looked like a cloche.  I just pulled a small clear depression glass plate out of the cabinet and made this little cloche.  I think it is so cute.   I bought the red angel for about a dollar at Dollar General on Sunday.  It was the last one left in Christmas clearance, but I thought it was ok to use regardless of the season.  Here the cloche has a white tree candle and little glittered hearts around it.  In the picture below, the cloche has a white rose and a red heart in it, with a little ivy and the hearts around the cloche and twine tied around the top. This is what I did with the hurricane from the other sconce. I am join...

New Table Arrangement

I was blog hopping on Sunday and came across Shirley's blog at Creative Home Decorating.   Her banner gave me an idea for a new arrangement for my breakfast nook.  Since Christmas, I had only had a basket of fruit on the table. Her banner has this little speckled rooster in it.....I recently bought a similar one at a consignment shop.  This is what I came up with by using things I had on hand.  This cost me NOTHING because I already had everything.   I've had the greenery and metal container for a long time.  The heart picks and roses are left from the Dollar Tree packet I bought last week.  (Used some on my wreath re-make).  The magnolia and bow were part of the green wreath I dismantled to make my new door wreath.  Can't get better than free!  So this is my new table centerpiece.  Did you notice the little sprigs of garland with hearts? I'm joining Marty for Tabletop Tuesday .  Come over and check out all the beautiful i...

Wreath Metamorphosis

I have been wanting to do a seasonal wreath for my front door all week.  I went to Dollar Tree and bought some beautiful red roses, some white ones,  and one of their 'grapevine-type' wreaths.  Came home, wrapped the wreath with burlap, put a bow on it. UGLY!!!!!!!! When I say UGLY, I  do mean UGLY!   :) This is NOT PRETTY!!! There's Hope!!! On the way home from work on Friday, I remembered a wreath I had in storage in the basement.  Regular green wreath with some beaded fruit and a magnolia on it.  VIOLA!! I decided I'd take apart the UGLY wreath and re-do the other one. This is what I came up with. I LOVE  it!!! I may never take it down....(yeah right)!  Anyway, here's the purty one! Here you see it with the sun coming through the front door. (Hung on the inside for pictures).  I cut the burlap I wrapped around the first wreath into short strips and just wrapped the greenery around pieces of it.  I love the textur...
